Larry King has been involved with the museum since 1993, previously serving as the board President and also as the Executive Director during the museum's transitional times. Larry coordinated the acquisition and remodeling of the outstanding museum facility that exists today. Besides heading up many of the museum's projects for growth and improvement, Larry also enjoyed discussing the museum artifacts with visitors. "I enjoy seeing and helping preserve the artifacts of yesteryear. I hope in years to come others can view our labors and understand how we lived."

Lifetime Achievement Awarded December 2018

Larry and Janet King, were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for “many decades of immeasurable dedication” to the museum. Larry, a Lawrence County native, graduated from Oolitic High School and, after a successful career with General Motors in Bedford, retired in February 1993 and began a second “career” with our museum a month later, in March 1993. He served as Board Member, Vice President, President and again Vice President before leaving the board in 2014. During his tenure as President, Larry oversaw the purchase and renovation of our current museum building, a huge and phenomenally successful undertaking. Janet volunteered alongside Larry and compiled “Lawrence County Schools 1814-1930” as well as making countless other contributions over the years.
