Edward Rector, 1863 to 1925 “Lawrence county’s Greatest Philanthropist”
Edward Rector story—wealthy son of Isaac and Juliet Rector pictures and story.. historic marker  Edward was Lawrence County’s greatest philanthropist part of story: So who was Edward Rector? He was an attorney born and raised in Bedford, a philanthropist to higher education, who became wealthy through his stock holdings, primarily Burroughs Adding Machine Company. Why did he use his money to benefit DePauw? Probably because he was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, his father, Isaac, was on the Board of Trustees of Indiana Asbury University, later DePauw, from 1866-1868, and Rector was passionate about helping earnest young men and women earn a college education that he felt was denied to him for a lack of funds.

We tend to take for granted older buildings were constructed on their current sites or on the locations where they appear in photographs. Jonce Coleman's story may make us question that belief.
